During this part of the novel Mr. Turners true colors were shown. In this section of the book we found out that Mr. Turner is racist, for example when some of the kids were acting out and calling Esme names he said they did it because they were black which is an awful thing to say is. While reading this part of the book we were also brought into the lives of some of the kids and we also found out that at home one of the kids had his parents hold a gun to his head and another had his parents beat him up. Now if I had a parents like that, which thank god I don’t, I would most likely lash out and get in trouble at school just like these kids. One thing that I found interesting was when Mr. Turner said the African American kids acted out because “they have to deal with drugs and gangs” but to me this made no sense what so ever because well Mr. Turner is a black man so maybe that is how he grew up.
